Awareness of Off Limits Areas

Reminder that during intermediate lunch all intermediate students should be in the Cafe, Courtyard, or in front of the gym. During High School lunch all students should refrain from loitering in buildings where intermediate classes are held, bldgs A, D, W, and Portables. Unless you are attending classes in these rooms, areas that are off limits throughout the school day are Football Field, Bleachers, Locker rooms, Gym, Behind the Cafe, Ag, bldgs G, Z., Field in front of school. All stairwells are off limits as well. - B. Suafoa

An important message from our Principal

Fighting will not be tolerated! If you instigate a fight (confront someone, relay messages, spread rumors, yell, jump up and down, challenge others, gesture, ignore a directive to stay away from a fight, etc…) or fight you will be suspended. The best way to avoid a fight is to report a problem or rumors to an adult immediately. Confronting others is not the right choice! Rushing to a fight is not the right choice! You will not be able to attend the Prom if your suspension days extend beyond spring break. If you are a senior and get suspended for being involved in a fight for any reason, you will not be able to participate in the graduation ceremony. All students have the ability and knowledge to make the right choices. Thank you to the majority of students who come to school to learn and portray the Kahuku spirit and pride. The countless hours that you spend on positive activities on and off campus will never be overshadowed by the unacceptable behaviors of a very small percentage of students. Congratulations to all of the students who participated in Con Con at Turtle Bay on Friday. I can’t wait to find out what bills were actually passed!

Kahuku is alive with the Sound of Music

The Kahuku High and Intermediate Drama crew will perform Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music this week on campus.

I was able to catch up with them during a busy dress rehearsal last week in the cafeteria, as students ironed out pre-performance kinks such as crackling portable mics, falling props, and a missing Captain von Trapp (backstage trying to change into his military suit for the ball).

Earth Day Poster Contest Results

Congratulations to all intermediate students who participated in this year's poster contest! Thank you teachers who submitted student work!!! What a great turn out of participants! The high school students were very impressed with your participation and effort! The Environmental Club members had a difficult time selecting winners due to such great talent!Posters will be displayed on campus for public viewing. Mahalo and continue to "Go Green!" Prizes and award certificates will be sent to Mr. Kalama for distribution.

JROTC Cadets step up to challenge

26 Kahuku Cadets spent spring break at Schofield Barracks with 500 other cadets from all over the state. Each JROTC battalion sent 4 cadets to a 4 day advanced camp where they went through leadership training in preparation to assume leadership positions for the main camp which began on March 24th. Cadets negotiated obstacle courses, learned drown proofing techniques, rappelled and many other activities. Every cadet said they were glad they went and really enjoyed meeting new people and gained enormous self-confidence and a sense of accomplishment. Job well done! You can also enjoy these activities, make sure you enroll in JROTC!

Sophmore Banquet

Calling all sophomores!!! Pay your dues before you lose out on our banquet. The permission forms will be going out on Thursday in your English classes. Dues are $7.00. You know you want to go!!

Fealofani Day 2008

On Saturday, April 15, 2008 the bus leaves KHIS in front of the gym at 7:00 AM and will depart Leilehua at 3:30 PM. Be sure to attend Tuesday's practice, April 1st to pick up your permission slips. Practice starts at 4:00 PM at BYU front left field. Fa'afetai tele lava.

Canned food drive

Hawaii Food Bank needs you!
Will your classroom be the one to win for the most cans donated to the Food Bank of Hawaii? Demonstrate your civic duty by helping others in need. What to do? Donate canned food. After collecting cans from your classroom, write out the total weight of the cans on a paper with your teacher's name, room number, and attach it to the box(es).
Where and when to drop them off? On April 17th, bring your can-filled boxes to room Y-202, the last day of the competition. May the best classroom win! May Day Section sign ups

The entire month of April is May Night rehearsal month. Check the schedules for rehearsals in the cafe or at P8. All sign ups will be done as students actually show up to rehearsals. Students will have the first two rehearsals to sign up (and show up for rehearsals). Instructors will list your names and grade and submit lists to SBG for follow up on class attendance or Teacher disapproval. All instructors are in agreement that students cannot just jump in on a section at the last minute. The entertainment sections this year are (in order of the program): Maori - Instructor: Margie Mataira / Fiji - Bale Tuisavura / Tahiti - Jon and Tiani Mariteragi/ Tonga - Fasi and Mele Tovo / Samoa - Barbi Ili. Participation is open to students grades 7-12. Students need to realize, however, that doing poorly in any class or poor attendance in any class may jeopardize your participation.

Cheerleading Tryouts

Those of you who are trying out, PLEASE make sure you've turned in all the paperwork (Physical, Assumption of Risk "Parent Consent") to Mrs. Tugman before trying out on Wed., 4/2/08. If you do not have it, you will be asked to leave the try-outs clinics.

Friendly Reminder...you MUST have everything turned in before clinics start on Wednesday, April 2nd.
(1) Physical must be current. Check with Mrs. Tugman or Mrs. Mesarch to make sure you're up-to-date.
(2) Risk form turned into Mrs. Tugman.
(3) Application (salmon colored) turned into Mrs. Mesarch.
(4) All obligations must be cleared.
(5) Two teacher evaluations turned into Mrs. Mesarch by Friday,April 4th. Come see Mrs. Mesarch in Y-103 if you need forms or have any questions.

Citizenship Award - Open Nominations

One Kahuku senior will win a $1,000 scholarship for being a good citizen. Students are welcome to nominate other seniors who are good family members, who have a post high school plan and who have shown good character, citizenship and community service. Come to Q-2 to pick up the nomination form. Nominations will be accepted through March 14.

Prom Update

Because of the kindness of senior parents and supporters, we have been able to extend the due date for prom payments to next Friday (March 14th). Make sure you get in your monies and paperwork in as soon as you can. Also if you wish to buy a prom memory book you may do so as well ($12). Thank you!

Senior Tiles

Seniors lets go! Time is ticking and we need to get our Senior tiles done. Please go see Mrs. Baranaba in W-101 as soon as possible. Keep in mind that no matter how many tiles we have they are still going up the second week of Spring Break. So lets go! The tiles have to be done before Spring Break gets here.

Boys need tuxedos? Girls need flowers? We have our own flower and tuxedo place right here in Kahuku! Please contact Aunty Liz at 293-8172 and she would be glad to service you. Also keep in mind that for every tuxedo that is ordered from her $10 will be given to Kahuku Project Grad 2008. So please support and at the same time get your things done for prom.

Students interested in running for office for grades 9-12 and Student Body government please come in to pick up applications. Completed applications are due by February 28. Please take the time now to get forms cleared and appropriate signatures.

Valentines Day is coming up so send your sweetheart a singing valentines gram along with something sweet for just $2. Sign up in the cafe during lunch on Feb. 4th, 5th, & 6th. Grams will be delivered during 3rd or 4th period on Feb. 11th, 12th, & 13th. Share the Love!
