Roosevelt and Kahuku repeat

A state champion can carry the team only so far.

But behind an all-around team effort, championships are more than possible.

The Kahuku High School girls retained its team title at yesterday's 7-plus-hour O'ahu Interscholastic Association Eastern Division Track and Field Championships at Kaiser. The Red Raiders edged runner-up Kaiser, 131-116.

Track & Field Team Fundraiser

The 2009 Track & Field teams are recycling cell phones to raise funds to off set our travel costs to the State Track & Field Championships on the Big Island in May. There is a box on the front office counter and all you need to do is drop your old, unused, discarded, out dated, . . . cell phone into the box. Thank you for your support.

Kahuku sprints past 'Aiea girls

Kahuku sophomore Zhane Santiago proved last year that she was one of the best runners in the state.

Last night, on the soccer field, she showed it.

Santiago, the state's 100- and 300-meter hurdles champion in 2008, scored twice to lead the Red Raiders to a 3-2 win over 'Aiea in the first round of the O'ahu Interscholastic Association Red Conference tournament at Kaiser High School.

Kahuku High School girls track and field team wins title

For a team filled with seniors, finishing first only seemed right for the Kahuku High School girls track and field team.

"After all these years, things shouldn't always be the same," Kahuku coach Garth Spurrier said. "You should be getting better."

The Red Raiders, with experience and depth, won last night's O'ahu Interscholastic Association Eastern Division Championships at Kaiser Stadium, finishing with 145 points. Kaiser was second with 100.
