Heald College will be presenting the EXCELLENCE IN CAREER EDUCATION TEACHING AWARD to Hawaii's qualified high school teachers in each district. Students are asked to submit an essay nominating the high school business, technology, or healthcare teacher they feel should receive this award. We hope that you will encourage participation within your school for this exciting event. The essay should not exceed 250 words in length. It must include the following information:
1. The name of the teacher
2. The name of the high school
3. The subject taught by the teacher
4. The reason why the teacher should receive this award
5. The name of the student nominator
All nominations must be postmarked no later than Friday, March 20. Nominations may also be
faxed to 955-6964. For more information, please see Mrs. Beatty in the front office.

2008 Citizenship Awards
The 4th Annual Citizenship Awards is a collaborative effort between The Hawai'i Hotel & Lodging Association, The Honolulu Advertiser and the Hawai'i State Department of Education. This exciting event recognizes one graduating high school Senior from each public school Statewide. Students are recogized for their spirit of Citizenship, of giving back to their school or community at large.

Gina Marie Ahue

Major: Business
Achievements:
Kahuku Yearbook Editor-in-Chief, State Science Fair Honorable Mention. Helped gir's water polo team reach the state finals for the past three years. Will complete five out of Kahuku's six AP classes.
Community Service:
Numerous community service projects through the National Honor Society and the North Shore Christian Fellowship
Character:
Gina is a friendly, supportive, dependable and an active member of the senior class. She is the kind of student teachers love to have in their classes. Gina is most proud of her athletic accomplishments. She participated in soccer and water polo for four years. She was named OIA player of the year as a sophomore, and all state tournament first team as a freshman. Gina is a very competitive person and doesn't like to finish second best. She is determeined to make sure that, as a senior, she helps her water polo team win the state championship this year. (Matthew Mumma, Counselor)

Lori Nishimura is an English and Yearbook teacher. From all the years I've know her, she has helped me realize my dreams. Her kind and loving character is always respectful, and I can look to her whenever I need anything. She will be a teacher I will remember for the rest of my life.
Personal Statement:
I am a very hard working and driven student. I try to put a lot of effort into everthing that I do. I come into situations with a positive attitude hoping that I can expand my knowledge more every day.

JROTC Cadets Win at Organizational Day
Saturday, May 3rd, Kahuku's very own Red Raider battalion brought home 3 trophies from the annual organization day at Bellow Air Force Station. Kahuku cadets won 1st place in the Humvee pull, second place in track and field and received a special award for motivation. Every cadet put out a tremendous effort and had a great time!

Citizenship Award - Open Nominations
One Kahuku senior will win a $1,000 scholarship for being a good citizen. Students are welcome to nominate other seniors who are good family members, who have a post high school plan and who have shown good character, citizenship and community service. Come to Q-2 to pick up the nomination form. Nominations will be accepted through March 14.

Congratulations History Day Winners
Congratulations to all of the History Day winners for Intermediate and High School Divisions. Just an observation; of the 16 high school students going on to the state competition, 11 of them have been members of the band or choir here at KHIS. I guess music DOES make you smart! (It also helps when you've got great history teachers!!!
