Wendy's High School Heisman Award Program

Any senior who has a 'B' grade average and participates in a least one school-sponsored sport is eligible to apply for this award program. The on-line application is available at www.wendysheisman.com and must be completed by October 1st. Two school winners will be named who will then have the chance to be chosen for more recognition at the state and national level. At the national level, winners will earn money for their high schools. National finalists also get to participate in this years' Heisman Memorial Trophy Weekend festivities in NYC.

Intermediate Elections

7th and 8th graders lets get on the ball. Run for class office. Want a fun year, well you can't have one unless someone plans it and it can't be planned if no on wants to be a class officer.

If interested, you can pick up an application from Mr. Leonardi in A305, or Mrs. Te'o in A102 or from your Intermediate Social Studies Teachers. All positions are open - President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Completed applications are due to Mr. Leonardi by Thursday, August 21, 2008.

Versatile Galeai making a name for himself at Kahuku

Kahuku football player Jray Galeai gets the most out of his unique first name.

Instead of being named Ray Jr., after his father — one of the most superb athletes to come out of Kahuku — the "J" for junior was just tagged up front.

"He wanted to name me after him, but there's so many 'juniors' in the family, he didn't want to name me 'Junior,' " Galeai said of his father. "so he put 'J' initial and 'Ray' together to make Jray, so it's like Junior Ray."

But it's pronounced like Dr. Dre.

"That's one thing I get out of everybody out here is that it's unique," Galeai said.

Showing off some razor sharp execution in its season opener, Kamehameha blitzed Kahuku, 35-0, last night in a nonleague football matchup of perennial Hawai'i high school powers.

A crowd of about 3,000 at Aloha Stadium watched Ryan Ho take a swing pass from quarterback Edmund Kamano Jr. in the right flat on the game's first play from scrimmage and race 80 yards for a touchdown.

Red Raiders quell turmoil, open against Kamehameha tonight

KAHUKU — As the 2008 Hawai'i high school football season kicks off tonight, Kahuku has turned all attention to its opponent, in this case fellow perennial power Kamehameha.

And the Red Raiders, who face the Warriors at about 7:25 p.m. at Aloha Stadium, are determined to keep things that way for the next 3 1/2 months.
