Earth Day Poster Contest Results
Congratulations to all intermediate students who participated in this year's poster contest! Thank you teachers who submitted student work!!! What a great turn out of participants! The high school students were very impressed with your participation and effort! The Environmental Club members had a difficult time selecting winners due to such great talent!Posters will be displayed on campus for public viewing. Mahalo and continue to "Go Green!" Prizes and award certificates will be sent to Mr. Kalama for distribution.

Kahuku debate team in final 4
The Kahuku High & Intermediate School debate team is one of four teams from across the nation competing in the New York University National Public Policy Forum National debate finals.

By advancing to the finals, the Kahuku debaters are eligible for a $10,000 grand prize. The competition takes place April 26 on the New York University campus.

Tiffany Polk new champ in recitation of poetry
Kahuku High & Intermediate School student Tiffany Polk is the state winner in the Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest.
Polk, a senior, recited "Still I Rise" by Maya Angelou and "Unknown Girl in a Maternity Ward" by Anne Sexton. She won an all-expenses-paid trip to the national finals in Washington, D.C., and a chance to win a $20,000 college scholarship. She also won $500 to purchase poetry books for her high school and $200 in cash.

For a team filled with seniors, finishing first only seemed right for the Kahuku High School girls track and field team.
"After all these years, things shouldn't always be the same," Kahuku coach Garth Spurrier said. "You should be getting better."
The Red Raiders, with experience and depth, won last night's O'ahu Interscholastic Association Eastern Division Championships at Kaiser Stadium, finishing with 145 points. Kaiser was second with 100.

Kahuku library sets free April programs
Kahuku Public & School Library will host a series of free Tuesday night programs from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the conference room during April.
Patrick Ball, known for his Celtic harp performances, will host "Celtic Tales" on Tuesday for ages 5 to adult.
Hawaiian Herbs, back by popular demand, features Kapua Fonoimoana and Carol Anamizu on April 22, sharing their knowledge to people of all ages.
Jimmy Leonardi will present Hawaiian Bottles of Long Ago on April 29. Leonardi, a historian and high school teacher, has been collecting bottles and pottery found on O'ahu since 1970. This lecture is suitable for ages 12 and up.
If a sign language interpreter or other special accommodation are needed, call the library at 293-8935.
